At Melody Living Colorado Springs Independent Living, our events calendar for September and October was packed with enriching seminars, fun celebrations, and engaging activities that brought our community closer together. From staying informed on important topics to celebrating the season with festive gatherings, our recent events offered something for everyone. Here’s a look back at these special moments: Inflation Reduction Act Informational Seminar Our Inflation Reduction Act Seminar provided residents with valuable insights into new financial policies impacting day-to-day expenses and healthcare costs. This event was aimed at breaking down the act’s details, from prescription cost caps to measures intended to address inflation. Residents gained a clearer understanding of the positive changes coming and how these policies might affect them, and our guest speaker fielded thoughtful questions in a friendly, relaxed setting while residents enjoyed light refreshments. If you want to learn more, watch the recording of the seminar here. SEEING BEYOND: Empowering the Lives of People with Low Vision Guest speaker Jonathan Thornton led our SEEING BEYOND seminar, offering an eye-opening presentation about the challenges people with low vision face and practical solutions to enhance their quality of life. Jonathan discussed assistive tools, lifestyle adjustments, and the emotional effects of low vision. Residents, family members, and caregivers left feeling empowered and informed, ready to better support loved ones impacted by low vision. Elder Fraud Prevention Seminar Elder fraud is an increasing concern, and our Elder Fraud Prevention Seminar gave attendees helpful tools to identify and prevent scams. Through open discussions and real-life examples, our speaker highlighted common scams targeting seniors and shared strategies for staying safe. Small bites and refreshments added to the welcoming atmosphere, and attendees shared their own experiences to help build awareness among friends and neighbors. Medicare Made Easy To prepare residents for the Medicare changes arriving in 2025, our Medicare Made Easy seminar made complex information accessible and understandable. This event outlined updates to prescription coverage, eligibility requirements, and changes in doctor and benefits access. Attendees asked questions specific to their plans and enjoyed light refreshments, leaving the event with the knowledge they need to make informed choices for the upcoming year. Oktoberfest Celebration This year’s Oktoberfest Celebration brought a taste of Germany to Melody Living! The Aly Kaly Shrine German Band provided live music, adding an authentic touch to this festive gathering. Residents enjoyed German appetizers, beer, wine, and soft drinks, creating a lively and enjoyable evening for all. In the spirit of giving, donations were accepted to benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital, making this event not only fun but meaningful. Speech Therapy Informative Discussion Stacey from Paxxon Therapy joined us in leading an informative discussion on the benefits of speech therapy during our speech therapy informal session. Residents learned how speech therapy can enhance cognitive health, improve communication skills, and support overall well-being. Stacey shared the many ways speech therapy can positively impact brain function, while residents enjoyed light refreshments and engaged in thoughtful discussions. Halloween Celebration We wrapped up October with a fun and festive Halloween Celebration! Our community joined together for trick-or-treating, craft activities, and a lively costume contest that even included our residents’ pets. The festivities continued with a Halloween Door Decorating contest, where creative displays around the community brought a festive spooky spirit. Residents enjoyed delicious treats, activities, and plenty of candy, making for a memorable day filled with laughter and fun.
