Senior Living Fun for National Smoothie Day
​June 21st is National Smoothie Day, and our senior living culinary team is busy blending up some tasty treats for our senior residents! Smoothies are a great and simple way to incorporate fruits and even vegetables into your diet and are a great way to cool down in the summer months.
 
This recipe includes amazing ingredients like blueberries, which are high in antioxidants, as well as chia seeds. Chia seeds are rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids which are great for your heart! Let’s celebrate National Smoothie Day together by making this easy smoothie recipe created by our in-house gourmet chef!
​Ingredients
  • 2 TBS Chia Seeds
  • ½ Cup Almond Milk
  • 1 Cup Blueberries
  • 1 TSP Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 TBS Coconut Oil
  • Pinch of Cinnamon
Raw Honey to taste
STEP 1: Place the chia seeds in a cup or jar and add 1/2 cup of the almond milk and stir thoroughly to combine. Set the mixture aside for 10 minutes. You can also refrigerate the mixture overnight or up to 4 days.
STEP 2: Transfer the mixture to a blender. Add the blueberries, vanilla, coconut oil and cinnamon, and blend until smooth, adding honey to taste.
