World Alzheimer's Month at Melody Living

9/14/2022

Picture
September is World Alzheimer's Month, dedicated to raising awareness around Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disorder of the brain that affects memory, cognitive function, and even the ability to carry out simple tasks. Alzheimer’s is a disease for which there is not yet a cure.

Alzheimer’s doesn't just affect the diagnosed, but their loved ones as well. If you have a loved one with Alzheimer's, it’s important to ensure they receive the proper care to keep them at their best. It may be difficult but making the decision to move your loved one into an assisted living and memory care facility may be the best choice for everyone. Memory care facilities can be incredibly beneficial to those with dementia and also help alleviate the stress for loved ones acting as their senior family member’s caregiver.

In addition to allowing family members direct access to expert care, memory care facilities create social opportunities that residents may not have access to if they subscribed to at-home care. Meals, activities, and downtime can become positive social interactions that help to improve mental health and cognitive function - allowing for a more enjoyable interaction between you and your senior loved one.

Schedules and consistency are also important to maintain when it comes to those affected by cognitive diseases. Structure in daily life can also help to reduce stress and agitation for those suffering from Alzheimer's.

Ensuring your loved one is in a secure environment means allowing them freedom while providing safety and security. Electronic key locks that log all visits to the resident's home provide maximized independence while maintaining a safe environment and peace of mind for loved ones. Medical alert pendants are also given to every resident in case of emergencies.

Safety monitoring is integrated with electronic health records to flag emerging issues so that resident’s present, and future, health and well-being remain our number one priority. Health monitoring discretely and privately delivers information on health status of seniors to proactively identify health concerns to help prevent emergencies. Every resident is different, which is why we offer unique individual care plans for each resident as well as care levels that ensure residents are only paying for the services they need.
