April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month

Melody Living Colorado Springs’ assisted living and memory care recognizes  Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month each April. Our unique community partnership with Paxxon Healthcare Services provides residents living with Parkinson’s disease on- site comprehensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. Our senior living community takes pride in offering residents a way of life that includes the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

Paxxon Healthcare Services provides a full range of person-centered, evidence-based therapeutic services to maximize the individual’s ability to function independently, thus enhancing quality of life. The Paxxon Model of Care was designed to develop a comprehensive program to service all seniors. They develop extensive programming and Best Practice Protocol, and partner with other providers to coordinate quality and continuity of care.  Our assisted living and memory care residents benefit from having therapy services from Paxxon on-site on our second floor in a private space. 

About Parkinson’s Disease

Nearly one million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease. April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month because the first doctor to describe the disease was born this month. James Parkinson, a physician based in London, wrote “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy,” in 1817. Parkinson’s disease affects the nervous system of middle aged and edlery people. It causes muscle stiffness and tremors. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease but treatment can help.
