Our Colorado Springs senior living community recognizes Arthritis Awareness Month each May. We are dedicated to guiding seniors living with Arthritis to a Life in Harmony™ by minimizing pain and maximizing their overall wellness. Arthritis Arthritis is best described as a “chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease that impacts joints and connective tissue.” Seniors who live with Arthritis say it is often painful, disabling, and usually requires management from a primary care provider. It is estimated that 24% of all adults, or 58 million Americans, live with Arthritis. Our senior living community offers opportunities every day to ease the pain of Arthritis through our EightDimensions of Wellness and also through unique care partnerships like Paxxon Healthcare Services that offers on-site care and therapy services.
Exercise Our senior assisted living and memory care community promotes physical wellness for all senior residents through daily exercise classes in our state-of-the-art fitness center seven days a week. We also offer specialty exercise classes, including stretching, and yoga. Another popular way for our residents to reach their physical wellness goals is by joining our Walking Club. Depending on the weather, the group walks our outdoor and indoor paths daily. Research proves exercise reduces pain in joints and increases strength and flexibility in people living with Arthritis. The biggest challenge is often making an effort to exercise on days seniors suffer from pain due to Arthritis.
Our residents are very connected to their fellow community members they exercise with - these relationships drive them to show up for a class or walk on days they aren’t feeling their best, and afterward, they always feel better!
Diet There is extensive research about how certain foods affect people living with Arthritis. For instance, fatty fish, like salmon, have high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D, which can ease the pain associated with Arthritis. On the other hand, sugar increases inflammation in your body and can make symptoms more severe. Our culinary experts craft delicious meals suitable for seniors living with Arthritis. Dietary needs are always top of mind as we understand that each resident’s needs vary.
Weight Control Medical experts link severe Arthritis pain to weight. Melody Living Colorado Springs’ senior living community supports residents with reaching their weight goals through our daily fitness classes and healthy, nutritious meals with locally sourced foods.
