Health experts say tracking your workouts is a motivator to keep doing them. Our senior living community offers fitness classes and walking clubs. In order to track movement, you just start the function on your device and then stop it when you are done. This concept will help seniors reach their daily goals for steps and fitness in order to provide them with physical wellness.
Consumer Reports suggest the following devices for seniors: Apple Watch 6, Angel Watch Series R - Assist, Wyze Smart Watch, Fitbit Sense, and the Garmin Forerunner 35. Fitness devices range in price from $30-$800 so there are really affordable options for all seniors and their unique styles! E-Reader or Tablet If you have had any hesitation about your senior loved one's ability to use an iPad or other tablet brand - now is the time to give it a try. First of all, tablets can be used solely for video chatting, through FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype or one of the other available platforms. FaceTime would probably be the simplest approach. Once you purchase the tablet, make sure you secure an internet connection. Then, move the FaceTime or similar app to an easy to find location on the screen. Finally, add contacts of family and friends. You’ll want to spend some time going over how to use the device together. Make sure to write the passcode on a piece of paper and put it in an obvious place, like on the refrigerator. You’ll have the opportunity to see your loved one and they’ll see you too. This is a wonderful way to provide social and emotional wellness to your senior loved one. If they get stuck with a technical problem, one of our staff members would be happy to help. Tablets range in cost from $70-$1,200 depending on the brand and whether you purchase new or used devices. Digital Photo Frame A digital photo frame is another way to keep your family connected to your senior loved one. Did you know that in some models you can upload photos directly to the frame from your location? For example, if your senior loved one’s grandson or granddaughter has their prom coming up this spring, you can snap photos on your smart photo and send them directly to the frame through an app for your loved ones to see from where they are. It is an excellent way to make them feel like they are right there with you. We promise, the process is user-friendly and is as fast as texting. You can also use a digital photo frame to bring old photos to life. Your senior loved one’s childhood, wedding, parents, and other special memories can be transferred into the frame. The best way to go about this process is to scan the old photos, and then load them into the frame either through the internet or on a flash drive. The historic photos will no longer fade, or discolor once they are in a digital format. The photos will bring back memories that provide both emotional and intellectual wellness. Digital photo frames come in all sizes and different designs, they range in price from $30-$200. The most expensive versions have larger screen sizes and more storage space. The larger screen is a nice option for seniors because they can see the little details of the photos better.
