Fun and games at Melody Living

​National Card Playing Day is observed Tuesday, December 28, 2021. The day is designed to encourage people to play a game or two with friends or family. Melody Living assisted living and memory care in Colorado Springs hosts “cards with friends” weekly for our senior residents. 
Experts believe playing card games like gin rummy, crazy eights, hearts, and bridge have several benefits for seniors. Studies show card games exercise your brain through memory and concentration, helping reduce the risk of dementia. 
Furthermore, the physical benefits of playing cards are significant for seniors. Shuffling and holding cards also strengthens your hands and motor skills. Additionally, players practice hand-eye coordination during card games.  

Seniors also gain social wellness through playing cards together as this gives them an opportunity to catch up, strategize, and challenge one another in good fun. At Melody Living, our staff love connecting with our residents during these weekly activities as they have the opportunity to talk and have fun together on a regular basis.
