5/30/2024

May’s Assisted Living Featured Resident Henry McIntosh
We’re so excited to introduce you to Henry McIntosh, our featured assisted living resident! We love getting to know each of our residents at Melody Living and can’t wait to share Henry’s story with you.

Henry McIntosh was born in Pueblo, Colorado. He attended various high schools in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Walsenburg including Mitchell High School, Coronado High School, and John Maul High School.

After completing his high school education, Henry pursued his undergraduate degree at Southern Colorado State College. Following his graduation, he served in the Navy for two years before embarking on his master's degree in Speech at Pittsburg State University.

Returning to his roots, Henry started his teaching career at South High School in Pueblo. He spent four fulfilling years there before moving to Coronado High School. Henry taught high school English and coached debate club at several schools in Southern Colorado and Kansas throughout his 12-year teaching career.

In 2004, Henry was nominated for Teacher of the Year by the principal of John Maul High School. This recognition allowed him to travel to various schools.

One of his most memorable experiences was traveling to Azerbaijan, where he helped teachers develop a new curriculum for their local schools. He even had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C., where he met President Bush and his wife in the Oval Office.

Henry met his late spouse, Janet, at a friend's house the evening they hosted a get-together. They dated for a year before they got married in a beautiful ceremony in Hawaii!

Together, they had two children; David, who works as a physical therapist in Colorado Springs, and Krista who is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force in Louisiana.

Of his many adventures, Henry’s favorite destination was Scotland. He cherishes Christmas time when the entire family gathers to celebrate.

One of his proudest accomplishments is earning a 3rd-degree black belt in Tai Quan Dao, he began practicing after getting married, and still occasionally practices to this day.

When asked why he chose Melody Living, Henry replied, "My son chose Melody Living for me, he looked at several places and thought this would be the best place for me. He was most impressed with Melody Living." He expressed his satisfaction with living at Melody Living, praising the friendliness of both the residents and the staff.
