 Meet Joyce Dalrymple, Melody Living’s assisted living featured resident of August! We love getting to know each of our residents here at Melody Living in Colorado Springs and hope you enjoy getting to know more about Joyce as much as we do. Joyce was born in eastern Colorado in a small town called Thurman. She attended Lindon High School as well as Arba High School, where she graduated. She lived in various parts of Colorado through her youth, after high school, she moved to Missouri to attend a Christian college.  Joyce went to college to become a teacher and did so, mostly working with 4th grade students. She taught in various cities throughout Colorado, such as Pueblo and Fort Morgan. Joyce even traveled overseas to teach on Okinawa Island in Japan. Joyce retired after 31 years of teaching. Joyce met her late husband, Dean, through mutual friends when she was teaching in Fort Morgan. Dean was a fireman and an electrical contractor, they were married for 57 years. Dean and Joyce had a son together, Dwayne, who suddenly fell ill with a heart condition and passed away at a young age.  Joyce had the opportunity to travel to many different places, but she found the most comfort in Okinawa, where she had moved after college to teach. She worked with the Department of Defense as well as with children and soldiers in the hospitals. She states those years of her life were her biggest accomplishment. Throughout her life, Joyce’s favorite hobby was sewing! She taught herself how to make her own clothing, and even sewed her own wedding dress. Joyce’s favorite holiday is Thanksgiving; “I love Thanksgiving because my husband and I would love to cook together, and we would usually host Thanksgiving at our house each year.”  Joyce’s favorite thing about Melody Living is all the wonderful people and friends she has met during her time here! If she could give a word of advice, it would be: “I think the most important thing is that we all need to look at each other from where the other person is coming from and not be critical of others.”
