The benefits of art for senior wellness

​Creating Environmental Wellness through art
Melody Living Independent Living in Colorado Springs offers active senior residents a life of luxury and promotes wellness in all Eight Dimensions – physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, and environmental. 

Our interior designers have showcased artwork from two regional artists to encourage environmental wellness in our new state-of-the-art senior housing community. Senior health experts believe the simple act of being surrounded by art can actually boost your mood and spark memories.  

​Downtown Colorado Springs
Five paintings from local artist, Laura Reilly, are featured throughout Melody Living’s independent living social spaces. Reilly created two scenes of downtown Colorado Springs that are hung side-by-side for a fun preview of downtown living in the Pikes Peak Region. These works capture the heart of our vibrant community and bring feelings of pride to our active senior residents. They are also a wonderful conversation starter. Residents can experience social wellness as well by talking about their favorite downtown destinations.  

​The Aspens
Three canvases of picturesque Aspens painted by Reilly are also featured at our luxury senior housing community. These pieces make you feel like you are outside on a hike in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. “To see and translate into paint the great beauty all around us is truly a privilege,” explains Reilly. 

A Place in the Sun
This calming piece by Amy Winter is the central piece in our private dining room. The painting features a native fox with a palette of blue for the sky background.
 
The piece embraces the spirit of wildlife in the Colorado Springs region. Amy Winter’s works are featured at three regional galleries including the Denver Art Co. Inc. She grew up in Arizona and spent much of her time outside as a child. She fell in love with wildlife and makes it a point to include this passion in her artwork. “My work gives voices to the powerful beauty of the West and its residents. It puts the subject out in front, venerating it, showing respect,” explains Winter.
